Invisalign is a system of custom-made, clear plastic aligners. Each set is worn for about one to two weeks, then swapped for the next in the series, gently nudging your teeth toward their planned positions. Because the aligners are removable, you take them out to eat and to clean your teeth — which makes oral hygiene much easier than it is with fixed braces.
Clear aligners work well for many common concerns: crowded or overlapping teeth, gaps, and a range of bite issues. They are not the right tool for every case — significant bite problems or complex rotations sometimes need traditional braces or a combination approach. The single biggest factor in success is wear time. Aligners need to be in your mouth roughly 20 to 22 hours a day — essentially everything except meals and brushing. Patients who stick to that get predictable results on schedule; the ones who leave them out get slower, less reliable movement.
We examine your teeth and bite and take a digital scan or impressions. From there we can tell you whether you are a good Invisalign candidate and preview the likely treatment plan and length.
A series of aligners is fabricated specifically for your teeth. We fit the first set, may place small tooth-colored attachments to help certain movements, and show you how to insert, remove, and care for them.
You move through the aligners on schedule, wearing each set the recommended number of weeks. Periodic check-ins let us confirm your teeth are tracking as planned and hand off the next sets.
Once your teeth are where they should be, a retainer keeps them there. Teeth naturally drift over a lifetime, so wearing your retainer as directed protects the result you worked for.
