Invisalign is a clear-aligner orthodontic system that straightens teeth using a sequence of custom, removable plastic trays. Instead of brackets and wires, each aligner is slightly different from the last, moving teeth in small, planned steps over the course of treatment. The aligners are nearly invisible in everyday settings and are removed for eating, drinking, and brushing.
Treatment begins with an evaluation and a digital scan of your teeth. A personalized plan is built that simulates how your teeth move over the course of treatment, and you can preview the expected outcome before you commit. Once you approve, a series of custom aligners is fabricated — typically dozens of trays. Most patients change to a new set every one to two weeks.
The most important factor in finishing on schedule is consistent wear: plan on 20 to 22 hours per day. Mild tenderness for a day or two after switching to a new aligner is normal. Check-in visits happen every six to ten weeks so your dentist can confirm teeth are tracking with the plan.
A clinical exam and digital scan or impressions of your teeth. Your dentist reviews your bite, gum health, and any existing dental work and determines whether clear aligners are the right fit for your case.
A 3D simulation is built from the scan, showing how teeth are expected to move and the projected end result. You can preview this before approving.
Custom aligners are fabricated and delivered — typically your first set plus a few additional sets. Small tooth-colored attachments may be bonded to certain teeth to help the aligners guide specific movements.
Wear each aligner for 20 to 22 hours per day, advancing to the next set every one to two weeks. Periodic check-in visits confirm that teeth are moving as planned.
After active treatment, retainers maintain the results. Teeth shift without retention — nighttime wear of clear retainers is the most reliable approach long-term.
