What we examine
A thorough checkup goes well beyond checking for cavities — it gives you a complete picture of your oral health.
We check every tooth surface — visually and with X-rays — for decay at any stage. Early cavities are small, cheap to fix, and symptom-free. We find them before they reach the nerve.
We measure periodontal pocket depths around each tooth to assess gum health and bone levels. Early gum disease (gingivitis) is reversible with a cleaning and improved home care. Advanced gum disease that reaches the bone requires a deeper conversation.
We check how your teeth come together and whether there are signs of grinding, clenching, or TMJ dysfunction — things that quietly damage teeth over time when left unaddressed.
Old fillings, crowns, and other restorations are checked for cracks, wear, gaps, or secondary decay. We note which restorations are healthy and which are approaching the end of their lifespan.
A brief visual and tactile screening of the tongue, soft palate, throat, cheeks, and lips for unusual lesions or tissue changes. Takes 2–3 minutes and is included in every comprehensive exam.
Bitewing X-rays once a year catch decay between teeth that a visual exam cannot see. Periapical X-rays check root tips and bone levels. We take X-rays on the clinical schedule that makes sense — not on an arbitrary annual clock regardless of need.
We show you X-rays and photos, point to what we are looking at, and explain findings in terms you can understand — not jargon. If we find a cavity, you will see it and understand why it needs treatment.
If treatment is needed, we explain the options, the urgency level, and the cost. We do not use same-day pressure tactics. You schedule at your convenience after thinking it through.
We are a family practice. Children can have their first dental exam around age 1, and we see patients throughout every decade of life. We adapt our approach to the patient in the chair.
Comprehensive exams are covered at or near 100% by most PPO dental plans. We verify benefits before your visit and tell you your out-of-pocket cost before anything happens.
Exam findings and treatment options are discussed in your preferred language — no miscommunication, no guessing at what the dentist meant.

Our office is at 5296 University Ave in City Heights — next to Vien Dong Supermarket. We are convenient for patients from North Park, Normal Heights, Encanto, Mid-City, and College Area. MTS Route 7 stops nearby. New patients are always welcome; most exams with a cleaning fit into a single 60–90 minute appointment.
