Tooth Extraction Β· City Heights, San Diego
When a tooth cannot be saved, removing it carefully and comfortably is the next best thing. Our office is right here on University Ave between 52nd and 54th Streets, next to Vien Dong Supermarket. City Heights patients do not need to drive to another part of town for a straightforward extraction or a wisdom tooth that has been causing trouble.
We accept Denti-Cal, Medi-Cal, and most major PPO plans, and we welcome cash-pay patients with up-front, published fees. Our bilingual team speaks English, Spanish, and Vietnamese so you can discuss your concerns in the language you are most comfortable with.
We are on the south side of University Ave between 52nd and 54th Streets, next to Vien Dong Supermarket β the heart of City Heights. Parking is available on site, and whether you are coming from Fairmount, Euclid, or anywhere else along University Ave, you are only a few minutes away.
We always look for a way to save a tooth first β a filling, a root canal, a crown, or a combination of treatments. Extraction becomes the right choice only when a tooth is too broken down, too infected, or too crowded to restore successfully. Common reasons include a tooth that has decayed beyond repair, a severe abscess that has destroyed too much supporting bone, a cracked root that cannot be treated, or a wisdom tooth that is partially erupted, impacted in soft tissue, or causing repeated infection.
After an extraction, the gap does not have to stay empty. We can discuss replacing the tooth with a dental implant-supported crown, a bridge that anchors to neighboring teeth, or a partial denture β all of which we provide or restore at our City Heights office. Talking through replacement options at the same appointment helps you plan and budget with full information.
If you are not sure whether your tooth can be saved, the first step is an exam and an X-ray. We will give you an honest assessment and go over every realistic option before recommending removal.
Before anything else, we take a focused X-ray and examine the tooth. We confirm that extraction is the right path, explain exactly why, and review your alternatives β including replacement options β so you can make an informed decision. You will know what the procedure involves and what it costs before we begin.
We use local anesthesia to thoroughly numb the area. You will feel pressure during the procedure but should not feel pain. Tell us if anything is uncomfortable β we can add more anesthetic. We take the time to make sure you are ready before we start.
Simple extractions involve gently loosening and lifting an erupted tooth from its socket. Surgical extractions β including soft-tissue impacted wisdom teeth, residual roots left from a previous extraction, and teeth that need to be sectioned β require a small incision and are a little more involved, but are performed right here in the office under local anesthesia.
Once the tooth is out, we place gauze and go over written after-care instructions with you β what to eat, how to keep the socket clean, warning signs to watch for, and how to reach us if something does not feel right. If sutures were placed, we schedule a follow-up to remove them and check healing.
Ready to stop the pain? Call us β we will walk you through your options.
An extraction is the right choice in some situations and the wrong one in others. Here are the most common cases we see:
If you have spreading facial swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, or uncontrolled bleeding, go to the nearest ER or call 911 β that is a medical emergency. For dental pain without those symptoms, call us.
