Before anything else, we take a focused X-ray and examine the tooth. We confirm that extraction is the right path, explain exactly why, and review your alternatives β including replacement options β so you can make an informed decision. You will know what the procedure involves and what it costs before we begin.
We use local anesthesia to thoroughly numb the area. You will feel pressure during the procedure but should not feel pain. Tell us if anything is uncomfortable β we can add more anesthetic. We take the time to make sure you are ready before we start.
Simple extractions involve gently loosening and lifting an erupted tooth from its socket. Surgical extractions β including soft-tissue impacted wisdom teeth, residual roots left from a previous extraction, and teeth that need to be sectioned β require a small incision and are a little more involved, but are performed right here in the office under local anesthesia.
Once the tooth is out, we place gauze and go over written after-care instructions with you β what to eat, how to keep the socket clean, warning signs to watch for, and how to reach us if something does not feel right. If sutures were placed, we schedule a follow-up to remove them and check healing.
