Dental Crowns · North Park, San Diego
If you live in North Park and need a crown — whether a tooth cracked, a large cavity has gone too far for a filling, or a root canal left a tooth that needs protection — our office is a straight shot east on University Ave. We are in City Heights, between 52nd and 54th Streets, next to Vien Dong Supermarket. Many of our patients make this same commute from 92104.
We have been a family practice in this corridor since the 1990s, and we work with most insurance plans including Denti-Cal and major PPOs. If you are a cash-pay patient, we publish our fees up front so there are no surprises.
Our office is on the south side of University Ave between 52nd and 54th Streets, City Heights — next to Vien Dong Supermarket. From North Park, head east on University Ave; the drive is roughly 10 minutes with normal traffic. Parking is available on site.
A dental crown is a cap that fits over the full visible portion of a tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. It is the right solution when a filling would not hold — because the tooth is cracked, has a cavity that has taken up too much of the structure, is badly worn, or has just had a root canal and needs protection to stay functional. A crown brings the tooth back to its normal form so you can chew and speak comfortably again.
We place porcelain crowns and porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns. Porcelain crowns match the color of your natural teeth and work well for front and visible teeth. PFM crowns combine a metal core with a porcelain outer layer, offering added strength for back teeth that take more chewing force. We will explain which type makes the most sense for your tooth during your exam.
We also place dental bridges — a restoration that uses two crowns as anchors on either side of a gap, with a false tooth (pontic) in between, to replace a missing tooth without implants. If you are missing a tooth and wondering about options, a bridge may be worth discussing at your visit.
At your first appointment we examine the tooth and take X-rays to confirm a crown is the right plan. If the tooth has significant decay or structural damage, we may do a core buildup first — rebuilding the inner structure so the crown has a solid foundation to grip. Then we shape the tooth by removing a thin, even layer of enamel around the sides and top so the crown will fit flush with your bite.
We take precise impressions of the prepared tooth and the teeth around it. Those go to a dental lab where your permanent crown is fabricated to match your bite and the shade of your natural teeth. Before you leave, we place a temporary crown to protect the tooth while you wait — usually one to two weeks.
When the permanent crown comes back from the lab, you return for a second visit. We check the fit, the way your teeth come together, and the color match. Once everything looks right, the crown is cemented in place. Most patients leave that appointment with a tooth that functions and feels normal.
Before any treatment we review what your insurance or Denti-Cal covers and what your out-of-pocket cost will be. We accept most major PPO plans and Denti-Cal. Cash-pay patients are always welcome — we publish our fees openly and do not add hidden charges after the fact.

A crown is not the only option for every tooth problem, but these are common situations where it is typically the best path forward.
Not every damaged tooth needs a crown — sometimes an inlay, onlay, or large filling is appropriate. We will give you an honest assessment and explain the tradeoffs.
